About this opportunity
This PhD studentship is offered through the ESRC Centre for Digital Futures at Work and the Economics PhD programme at the University of Sussex Business School, forming part of the South East Doctoral Training Arc. The studentship provides comprehensive funding for a research project investigating how digital technologies are reshaping the UK labour market. The research will examine how the diffusion of advanced digital technologies is transforming patterns of technology adoption, skill demand, and wage outcomes across the United Kingdom. Successful candidates will analyze how the spread of advanced digital technologies alters the demand for specific skills and competencies, and how this influences individual wage trajectories and career progression. The studentship includes a placement with the UK Low Pay Commission to investigate the impact of digital technologies as the minimum wage reaches unprecedented levels in the UK. Students will be part of the Digit Doctoral Network and receive outstanding postgraduate research training through SEDarc, with opportunities for advanced training in quantitative research methods and engagement with policymakers concerned with labour-market policy.
