LISS DTP CASE PhD Studentship

Imperial College London Original Source

About This Opportunity

This is a 3.5-year LISS DTP CASE PhD Studentship opportunity in the Mohn Centre for Children's Health & Wellbeing focusing on understanding the rapid rise in poor health and economic inactivity among young adults. The research will study transitions into employment during early adulthood, exploring the links between employment, health behaviours and health as people start their first job. The project will investigate different employment trajectories followed by young adults based on employment participation, quality and type of employment, examining factors such as social background and health that influence these trajectories, as well as the connections between different employment experiences and short and long-term health and employment outcomes. The project uses data from The UK Household Longitudinal Study (UKHLS), following 5000 young adults aged 16-30, and is supervised by researchers from Imperial College and the University of Leeds. Students must undertake a 3-month placement with one of the project's partner organisations, specifically the Department for Work and Pensions / Department of Health and Social Care Joint Work and Health Unit, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange between research and policy partners. The studentship provides UKRI home tuition fees, a tax-free stipend, and additional funding for training, fieldwork, and conferences.
