About this opportunity
The Western History Association announces the competition for the W. Turrentine Jackson Award. The award is presented to a beginning professional historian for a first book on any aspect of the history of the American West. This is not an award for individuals who have already published a book; the award recognizes first-time authors of historical monographs. Publishers may submit more than one title each year, and all submissions must have a 2025 copyright date. The winner of the $1,000 award will be announced during the Western History Association's annual conference. While the formal process requires presses or journals to submit the work of their authors, the WHA strongly recommends that authors check with the award committee chair a week before the deadline to confirm receipt of their work.
