About this opportunity
The American Osler Society offers the William B. Bean Student Research Award to support medical student research in medical history and medical humanities. The stipend is $1,500 to support research projects that must be completed before graduation. The award was established in 1986 and named in honor of William Bennet Bean, MD, the first president of the American Osler Society, in 1990. The Society has granted more than $150,000 to medical students since the award's founding, with historically one or two awards annually but in recent years offering as many as six awards based on application merit and available funds. Many previous winners have been invited to present their findings at an annual meeting of the American Osler Society, with the Society offering travel funds and free registration to support awardee attendance. The award encourages medical student interest and study in Oslerian values of medical humanism and respect for the history of medicine.
