Research Excellence Scholarship

UCL's prestigious Research Excellence Scholarship (UCL-RES) aims to attract outstanding scholars to undertake doctoral research at UCL. For 2026/27, UCL is offering 40 fully funded Research Excellence Scholarships to exceptional applicants from any country. Only prospective UCL MPhil/PhD and EngD students can apply, meaning students who will begin on or after the academic year 2026/27 first permitted MPhil/PhD start date of 1 October 2026. The UCL-RES scholarship consists of full tuition fees (either Home or Overseas) plus a maintenance stipend during the research portion of the programme which increases each year with inflation. For 2025/26, the stipend rate is £22,780 for full-time study (rates are calculated pro rata for part-time students). The scholarship also includes additional research costs of up to £1,200 per year for the standard duration of the research portion of the programme. Awards are made for the standard length of the research portion of the programme of study, normally 3 years for a full-time MPhil/PhD/EngD degree programme (or 5 years for part-time study), subject to sufficient academic progress. Selection is based on academic merit, research potential, suitability of project proposal for the supervisors available and disciplinary need.

Naughton & Clift-Matthews Mathematics Scholarship

The Naughton & Clift-Matthews Mathematics Scholarship is intended to enable students in financial need to pursue their postgraduate studies in the Mathematics Department at UCL. The scholarship is available to prospective students who are ordinarily resident in the UK and eligible to pay the Home fee rate. Candidates must have submitted an admission application to study for a full-time MSc Mathematical Modelling, MSc Mathematics, or MSc Financial Mathematics at UCL. In addition to meeting residency requirements, candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria: identify as British Black-African or British Black-Caribbean, have a household annual income under £42,875, or have received an Access UCL undergraduate offer. The scholarship provides £20,000 for one year and may be held alongside other scholarships or awards. Recipients are expected to secure the remaining part of their tuition fees and living costs from other sources. Candidates are shortlisted based on financial need upon recommendation of the Student Funding Office, with the Department of Mathematics making the final decision.

Women's Scholarship (Marjorie McDermott)

The Women's Scholarship (Marjorie McDermott) is awarded annually to outstanding women students in the Mathematics Department at Imperial College London. The scholarship supports women pursuing further study in Mathematics, with awards given to undergraduate students continuing their studies and to women entering MSc or MRes programmes. Recipients are selected based on academic merit, intention to pursue further study in Mathematics (MSci, MSc, or PhD), and demonstration of good citizenship through volunteering, leadership, or community service. Undergraduate recipients receive £1,000 in each of Years 1 and 2, followed by £7,500 during their MSci year or when pursuing an MSc or MRes. The scholarship aims to encourage and support women in advanced mathematics education and research.

Val O'Donoghue Scholarship (Natural Sciences)

The Val O'Donoghue Scholarship honours the legacy of Val O'Donoghue, a respected electronics engineer, entrepreneur, and technical author with a longstanding connection to Imperial College. Established through the generous support of his widow, Mrs. Maria O'Donoghue, this scholarship supports outstanding students pursuing studies in electronics, empowering them to continue Val's commitment to innovation and excellence in engineering. The award covers full home fees and provides an annual stipend for 4 years equal to the UKRI rate for London. This scholarship is available for PhD students undertaking research in the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Imperial College London. Candidates must have been assessed Home or of Irish Nationality fee status and apply to undertake research in eligible departments within the Faculty of Natural Sciences, including Centre for Environmental Policy, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics.

Unite Foundation Scholarship

The Unite Foundation Scholarship provides comprehensive accommodation support for care leavers and estranged students pursuing their first undergraduate degree at Imperial College London. This scholarship covers year-round accommodation in Imperial-owned halls for the entire duration of the degree programme, typically up to 4 years. The scholarship is specifically designed to support young people who are statutory care leavers or estranged from their families, helping to remove financial barriers to higher education. The Unite Foundation administers this programme in partnership with Imperial College London, providing stable housing and support throughout the undergraduate journey.

The Satinder Kaur and Dr Narinder Singh Kapany Scholarship

Imperial College London offers The Satinder Kaur and Dr Narinder Singh Kapany Scholarship for the 2025/26 academic year. Established in 2024, this scholarship was named in honour of Imperial alumnus Dr Narinder Singh-Kapany and his wife Mrs Satinder Kaur. Dr Singh-Kapany was a noted scientist and renowned pioneer in the field of optics. He and his wife valued education, and their philanthropy was often dedicated to supporting the Sikh population. The scholarship aims to support financially disadvantaged, Sikh students undertaking a master's (MSc) course of study within the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences or Business School. The scholarship provides a maintenance grant of £19,580 to one successful applicant for the 2025/26 academic year. Applicants are ranked based on academic merit and financial need, and must identify as being a member of the Sikh community. The scholarship is available for both Home and Overseas students who have an offer to study an eligible master's degree beginning in Autumn 2025.

The Lee Family Scholarships

The Lee Family Scholarships support outstanding doctoral students from mainland China or Hong Kong pursuing PhD degrees at Imperial College London. The scholarship provides comprehensive funding for up to 3.5 years, covering full tuition fees, an annual stipend of £26,500, and a consumables budget to support research. Three scholarships are available for the 2026/27 academic year. The scholarships are available across four faculties: Engineering, Medicine, Natural Sciences, and the Imperial Business School. Candidates must be classified as Overseas for fee status and ordinarily reside in mainland China or Hong Kong (excluding Taiwan). The application process requires prospective PhD students to approach departments and potential supervisors with their proposed projects before submitting a complete PhD admissions application by 12 January 2026. Departments will nominate candidates based on academic merit and potential, and Imperial's Selection Panel will make final award decisions. Applicants must not intend to exercise their skills obtained from the PhD in the UK after completing their studies.

The Egyptian Bureau for Cultural & Educational Affairs PhD Scholarships

The Egyptian Bureau for Cultural & Educational Affairs PhD Scholarships program provides funding for Egyptian nationals to pursue full-time doctoral studies at Imperial College London. The scholarship covers full tuition fees for the duration of the PhD program, excluding the writing-up year and any active research period extensions. In line with the agreement between The Egyptian Bureau for Cultural & Educational Affairs and Imperial College London, Imperial will cover 30% of tuition fees for successful applicants. Five scholarships are available for the 2026/2027 academic year across a wide range of departments including engineering, medicine, natural sciences, and business. Applicants must be assessed as overseas fee status and must apply both through Imperial College London's application portal and through the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Egypt.

The Beacon Scholarship

The Beacon Scholarship is a prestigious undergraduate scholarship offered in partnership between Imperial College London and Beacon. The scholarship is designed to support exceptional students from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, or South Africa (from previously disadvantaged communities) who demonstrate significant financial need and leadership potential. The scholarship covers full tuition fees for three-year or four-year undergraduate programmes in the faculties of Engineering, Natural Sciences, or the Imperial College Business School. Recipients must demonstrate the potential to become leaders in their chosen fields and contribute to the future development of their home countries. The scholarship aims to support talented individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford studying at Imperial College London.

The Beacon Scholarship

The Beacon Scholarship is a prestigious undergraduate scholarship for students from East Africa, specifically Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, or Zambia. The scholarship covers full tuition fees at the overseas rate for Imperial College London, with Beacon and the College each contributing 50% of the tuition fees. The scholarship is designed for students with significant financial need who demonstrate the potential to become leaders in their chosen fields and contribute to the future development of their home country. Scholars must cover all living costs including accommodation, subsistence, airfares, visa, health surcharges and all other incidental costs related to study in the United Kingdom. The scholarship is available for three-year or four-year undergraduate programmes in the faculties of Engineering, Natural Sciences, or the Imperial College Business School.

TEV UK-Imperial-Scholarship

The TEV UK-Imperial-Scholarship is a prestigious funding opportunity for Turkish students pursuing full-time one-year Master's level courses at Imperial College London. This scholarship is offered through a collaboration between the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV UK) and Imperial College London. The award is designed to support academically excellent Turkish students who demonstrate financial need and wish to study in the UK. The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support including full tuition fees at the overseas rate, an annual stipend, return economy-class flights, and coverage of visa application and Immigration Health Surcharge fees. Recipients must hold at least a good UK second-class honours degree equivalent and must hold an offer of admission by March 2025 for courses starting in Autumn 2025-26 in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences, or Faculty of Medicine. Courses offered by Imperial Business School are not eligible. The scholarship supports only one-year full-time Master's programs with tuition fees under £45,000.
