Pomerleau Renewable Scholarship for an Abegweit First Nation Indigenous Student

University of Prince Edward Island

Granted to an Abegweit First Nation full-time Indigenous student who is entering any academic program at the University of Prince Edward Island. Preference will be given to students in the greatest financial need enrolled in one of UPEI's undergraduate STEM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Should there be no qualifying candidates, a Lennox Island First Nation Indigenous student will be selected using the same criteria. Pending successful completion of the first year of study, this scholarship will be renewable for each subsequent year of the student's enrolment in a STEM program for a maximum total of four years support. Established by Pomerleau, a Canadian leader in the construction industry, in November 2023 to support Indigenous students at UPEI.

One of its major projects is the renovation of the Daniel J. MacDonald Building in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Pomerleau's history is one of strong family values and a solid work ethic, infused with an entrepreneurial spirit. It is a story of growth and evolution, propelling what started as a small company from Beauce, Quebec into the coast-to-coast business it is today. In November 2023, Pomerleau generously decided to establish two renewable scholarships for UPEI Indigenous students.

Physics Department Prize

University of Prince Edward Island

The Physics Department Prize is awarded to the top first-year student who has declared Physics as their choice of Major with the Registrar's Office and is enrolled in Physics 221 and 211 in their second year. The student with the highest marks in Physics 111, 122, or 112 and Math 151 and 152 will be selected. This prize was created by the Physics Department in 2006 to recognize the top performing first year student who is returning to second year and intending to major in Physics at UPEI.
