Skolebibliotek

Kulturrådet

This grant program provides school libraries in primary and lower secondary education with access to new Norwegian books through direct distribution. The program purchases and distributes culture fund books aimed at children and young people to school libraries. Elementary schools receive books for grades 1-10, while secondary schools receive books for grades 5-10. The books distributed are either enrolled in the automatic purchase scheme for new Norwegian fiction for children and young people, or purchased by the Arts Council through selective purchase schemes for fiction, non-fiction, comics, and translated literature. The grant is provided in the form of books rather than monetary funding, and comes in addition to the school's existing library budget. Schools are required to receive and disseminate all books included in the program until the current funding period ends in 2026, and must retain the books for at least five years.

Ny norsk skjønnlitteratur for barn og unge – selektiv innkjøpsordning

Kulturrådet

This selective purchase scheme is designed to support the creation, publication, distribution and reading of new Norwegian fiction for children and young people. The program is specifically aimed at smaller publishers who release fewer titles each year, helping them get their titles evaluated and purchased for public libraries, thereby contributing to literary diversity. The Norwegian Arts Council purchases books both in print and e-book formats (except for picture books, which are purchased only in print) for distribution to Norwegian libraries. The scheme ensures that quality Norwegian children's and young adult fiction becomes accessible to libraries throughout Norway. Books are evaluated by a specialized assessment committee based on literary quality, craftsmanship, and appropriateness for the target audience. Publishers can submit up to three titles per application deadline. The purchase scheme covers different genres including novels, short stories, poetry, drama, and picture books written in Norwegian (Bokmål, Nynorsk or dialect) or translated from Sami or national minority languages.

Ny norsk skjønnlitteratur for barn og unge – automatisk innkjøpsordning

Kulturrådet

This is an automatic purchase scheme for new Norwegian fiction for children and young people to be distributed to public libraries. The Norwegian Cultural Council (Kulturrådet) purchases books that meet quality standards to ensure new Norwegian literature for children and young people is created, published, distributed, and read. Publishers submit books before publication, and if accepted, books are delivered to libraries on the publication date. The Cultural Council pays both the publisher portion and author royalties upfront, before the final decision. If the application is rejected, the publisher must repay both portions (though the author retains their royalty). The scheme evaluates books based on their literary quality, editorial work, appropriateness for the target audience, and contribution to diversity in Norwegian literature. Books can be novels, short stories, poetry, drama, picture books, or other fiction works written in Norwegian or translated from Sami or national minority languages.

Ny norsk skjønnlitteratur for vaksne – automatisk innkjøpsordning

Kulturdirektoratet / Kulturrådet

The automatic purchase scheme for new Norwegian fiction for adults is managed by the Norwegian Arts Council (Kulturrådet). This program acquires Norwegian fiction books for public libraries throughout Norway. Publishers submit books to be delivered to libraries on the publication date, with the application reviewed afterward. The scheme aims to ensure that new Norwegian fiction for adults is created, published, distributed, and read. The Arts Council sets minimum requirements for the quality of the books and the professionalism of the publication. Together, all purchased books should contribute to a broad diversity in Norwegian literature. Books registered in the scheme are distributed to public libraries throughout Norway on the publication date, both as printed books and e-books. Payment is made in advance before the application is fully processed, including an author honorarium and publisher portion. If the application is rejected, the publisher must repay the funds, though authors retain their honorarium. Libraries are responsible for maintaining and providing access to purchased books and e-books for at least five years.
