JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (Short-term)

The JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (Short-term) is offered by STINT (Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education) in partnership with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). The program provides fellowships for research visits to Japan and is open to research within humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. The fellowship offers PhD students in the final stages of their education, as well as recently graduated doctors, stipends for research stays of 1-12 months in Japan. This program aims to facilitate international research collaboration and provide early career researchers with opportunities to conduct research at Japanese institutions.

Projekt (Project Grant)

The Swedish Cancer Society's Project Grant funds cancer research that can lead to better understanding, prevention, earlier diagnosis, or more effective and gentle treatment of cancer diseases (including palliative and rehabilitative treatment). The perspective is very broad and applications are welcomed from researchers in many different fields including medicine, nursing science, pharmacy, natural sciences, technology, social sciences, public health sciences, and behavioral and communication sciences. Project grants are primarily intended for researchers with PhDs who have scientific merits corresponding to associate professor competence and/or independence as a research leader (PI). Applicants must have defended their doctoral thesis before January 1, 2023. The grant is awarded as a framework grant for personnel and operational costs and can be used for stipends, doctoral positions, etc., but not for the applicant's own salary or for permanent lecturer or professor salaries.

SLS projekt

SLS projekt provides funding for medical research projects to early career researchers in Sweden. The grant supports one-year or two-year research projects for physicians who have completed their PhD within the last 10 years and are members of the Swedish Society of Medicine (Svenska Läkaresällskapet) or a member association. One-year projects receive funding of approximately 350,000 SEK, while two-year projects can receive up to 600,000 SEK. The funding can be used for materials, equipment, and personnel costs, though not for salary compensation for the principal investigator or co-applicants. Projects must be conducted at a Swedish university or other relevant authority, and overhead costs are included in the grant amount. The program emphasizes clinical relevance and requires patient benefit to be clearly described in applications. Recipients are required to acknowledge the Swedish Society of Medicine in publications and submit both scientific and financial reports upon project completion.

SLS postdoktorsstipendium

The SLS Postdoctoral Scholarship enables physicians who are members of the Swedish Society of Medicine (SLS) to take leave after obtaining their PhD to conduct research at a reputable institution abroad. The scholarship provides 30,000 SEK per month for full-time research for a continuous period of at least three months and up to twelve months per application. The program supports postdoctoral training abroad and requires that applicants have defended their dissertation no more than 7 years prior to the application deadline (excluding parental leave). Recipients must be medical doctors and members of SLS or a member association.

SLS introduktionsstipendium

The Swedish Society of Medicine (Svenska Läkaresällskapet) offers an introductory research scholarship for medical students to engage in medical research during summer break. The program aims to increase the proportion of physicians among PhD students and to provide future doctors with early exposure to ongoing medical research. The scholarship supports interested medical students to work full-time in a research group for 1-2 months during the summer break. Students work under the supervision of a qualified PhD holder who must be available during the research period. The program requires students to develop a research plan in collaboration with their supervisor and participate in a follow-up meeting at the Swedish Society of Medicine in the autumn to present their experiences.

SLS forskarmånader

SLS forskarmånader is a stipend program designed to enable physicians to take leave from clinical service after obtaining their PhD to conduct research. The stipend provides financial support of up to 75,000 SEK per month for full-time research. The program is offered by the Swedish Society of Medicine (Svenska Läkaresällskapet) to support early-career researchers who have defended their doctoral thesis within the past 7 years. The research must be conducted in Sweden on a full-time basis. The program aims to facilitate the transition from clinical practice to research activities for recently graduated PhDs in medicine. Recipients must be members of SLS or a member society, hold a medical degree, and have completed their doctoral defense no more than 7 years prior to application (with deductions allowed for parental leave).
