Commonwealth Scholarships for Developing Countries
Commonwealth Scholarships for Masters and PhD study in the UK are offered for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries. These scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), with the aim of contributing to the UK's international development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education, and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth. The scholarships provide 12 months support towards completion of a full-time taught postgraduate qualification (excluding MBA programmes) or up to 36 months support towards completion of a full-time doctoral postgraduate qualification at an eligible UK institution. Durham University participates in this programme, allowing eligible students from developing Commonwealth countries to pursue advanced studies at the institution.

Chinese Scholarship Council - Durham Joint Award
The China Scholarship Council (CSC) scholarships are available thanks to a partnership between Durham University and the China Scholarships Council. The scholarships are open to applicants from Mainland China wishing to study for a PhD at Durham. This fully-funded scholarship provides comprehensive support for doctoral research across all disciplines. The scholarship covers full tuition fees, annual allowance, overseas student health cover, return airfare, and visa application fees. The program aims to support high-quality Chinese doctoral candidates to pursue research degrees at Durham University, with successful candidates required to return home upon completion of their studies. Up to 25 awards are available annually for full-time PhD study across all academic departments at Durham.
