This is a purchase program for Norwegian public libraries to acquire literature translated into Norwegian. The program is administered by the Norwegian Arts Council (Kulturrådet) and aims to ensure that high-quality literature from as many languages as possible is translated into Norwegian, published, distributed, and read. The program covers both fiction and non-fiction, including comics, and books can be targeted at both adults and children/young people. Works must be translated from another language and published in Norwegian, typically directly from the original language. Publishers with Norwegian organization numbers can apply, and applications are evaluated by an assessment committee based on criteria including the justification for Norwegian publication, the original language and country, previous publications by the author and translator, reception of the original work, sample translation quality, and contribution to breadth in Norwegian-published literature. The program purchases 502 printed copies for adults and 1042 copies for children/young people (from 2025), plus 40 e-book licenses when applicable.
