Midlene skal fordeles etter søknad om tilskudd til konkrete tiltak innen sikring, istandsetting, vedlikehold, kulturminne- og tilstandsregistrering, dokumentasjon, og mulighetsstudier. Ved fordeling prioriteres opprettholdelse av tilstandsgrad og ivaretakelse av opparbeidet kompetanse ved de 15 prioriterte anleggene, samt tekniske og industrielle anlegg som har bevart produksjonslinje, maskineri eller teknisk infrastruktur. Bygg og anlegg som har et formelt vern etter kulturminneloven eller plan- og bygningsloven prioriteres.

Tiltak og prosjekt som får støtte skal bidra til å bevare dei unike verdiane i natur- og kulturmiljøet. Formålet med ordninga er å bidra til at verdsarvområda blir utvikla som fyrtårn for den beste praksisen innan natur- og kulturmiljøforvaltning når det gjeld tilstand, forvaltning og formelt vern. Tilskotet skal gå til tiltak og prosjekt i verdsarvområdet Geirangerfjord i Fjord og Stranda kommunar som bidrar til å oppfylle formålet med tilskotsordninga. Eksempel på slike tiltak og prosjekt er vedlikehald og istandsetting av verneverdige bygg og anlegg, skjøtsel av kulturlandskap, skilting, formidling, kurs og forsking, og brannsikring av verneverdige bygningar. Fylkeskommunen bestemmer om du får støtte, og kor mykje du får, basert på om tiltaket ditt bidreg til å oppnå måla for støtteordninga. Det blir lagt vekt på prioriteringane i forvaltningsplanen for verdsarvområde, kapasitet, kompetanse og anna finansiering til å gjennomføre tiltaket, tiltak som bevarer dei verdiane som verdsarvstatusen er grunnlagt på, tiltak som styrkar forvaltninga av verdsarven, tiltak som stimulerer lokalt engasjement og eigarskap, og forsking og ny kunnskap. Som hovudregel skal ikkje tilskotet overstige 50–70 prosent av totalkostnaden i det enkelte prosjektet. Unntak frå dette må vurderast i lys av formålet med tiltaket, kulturminnet/kulturmiljøet sin verdi, bruken av kulturminnet/kulturmiljøet, og om det er eit særleg stort vedlikehaldsansvar i forhold til bruken.

Ved å gi økonomisk støtte til tekniske og industrielle kulturminner, legger Møre og Romsdal fylkeskommune grunnlaget for å bevare avgjørende deler av Norges fascinerende historie innen teknologi og industri. Målet med ordningen er å sette i stand og vedlikeholde tekniske og industrielle kulturminne for å bidra til kunnskap, opplevelser, bruk og verdiskaping. Støtte kan søkes til sikring, istandsetting, vedlikehald, kulturminne- og tilstandsregistrering, dokumentasjon, og mulighetsstudier. Tilskottsmottakere kan bruke 10-15% av tilskottet til prosjektledelse og prosjektoppfølging knyttet til tiltaket. Som hovedregel skal ikke tilskottet overstige 50-70 prosent av totalkostnaden i det enkelte prosjekt. Det gis støtte til anlegg som oppfyller kriterier som bevart produksjonslinje, maskineri eller teknisk infrastruktur, forankring i nasjonale strategiske satsinger, grunnlag for forskning og formidling, eller lokalt/regionalt engasjement eller medfinansiering.
