Alberta Athletic Award - Winter

Red Deer Polytechnic

The Alberta Athletic Award - Winter is a nominated scholarship for student-athletes at Red Deer Polytechnic. This award recognizes members of Red Deer Polytechnic Athletic Teams who meet ACAC and CCAA eligibility requirements and demonstrate themselves as assets to their teams. The scholarship supports students enrolled full-time in the second or subsequent term of an undergraduate program who maintain academic standing while actively participating in collegiate athletics. Eligible students must be Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons residing in Alberta, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. The award provides between $900 and $1,800 to support student-athletes in balancing their academic and athletic commitments. Students do not apply directly; rather, they are nominated by the Athletics Department, which notifies eligible students in January for the Winter run of this scholarship. The program also extends eligibility to apprenticeship students after completing one period of their program, and to Academic Upgrading students after one term, though upgrading students can only receive the award for a maximum of one year. Recipients are determined by coaches based on their contribution and value to their respective athletic teams.
