Sarah Grimble and Professor Catherine Innes-Parker Memorial Award
The Sarah Grimble and Professor Catherine Innes-Parker Memorial Award is a $500 award presented to a full-time first-year student who achieves the highest mark in English 121 at the University of Prince Edward Island. This award honors the memory of Sarah Grimble, who was born in 1921 and lived in London, Ontario and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Despite her aspiration to obtain a degree in English at the University of Manitoba, Sarah withdrew after one year so her sister Mary could attend university due to insufficient family funds. She then worked at the Royal Bank of Canada until retirement. Sarah was known for her lifelong generosity, serving as a beloved aunt and dedicating years as a cub pack leader. The award was established by her niece, Catherine Innes-Parker, and husband Kim Ian Parker, to help students in their first or second year of university—the time when Sarah herself had to withdraw for financial reasons. Sarah Grimble passed away on September 27, 2003, at age 81, remaining cheerful and loving throughout her illness. The award serves as a tribute to her memory and her characteristic generosity throughout her life.
