Tilskudd til spesielle miljøtiltak i jordbruket (SMIL)

Landbruksdirektoratet

SMIL (Special Environmental Measures in Agriculture) is a Norwegian grant program that provides funding for environmental measures in agricultural operations. The program aims to promote natural and cultural heritage values in agricultural landscapes and reduce pollution from farming activities, beyond what can be expected through ordinary agricultural practices. The program supports four main types of initiatives: pollution reduction measures (such as hydroengineering improvements, catch basins, and plant protection measures), preservation of natural and cultural heritage in agricultural landscapes (including biodiversity conservation, cultural monument maintenance, and landscape management), environmental measures beyond normal farming operations that involve extra effort and special costs, and planning and facilitation projects that organize and prepare for implementing concrete environmental measures. Projects can be single initiatives or larger collaborative efforts involving multiple actors and properties. The funding is administered at the municipal level, with each municipality setting its own application deadlines, priorities, and guidelines based on local environmental goals and strategies developed in dialogue with county governors and local agricultural organizations.

Regionalt miljøtilskudd i jordbruket (RMP)

Landbruksdirektoratet

The Regional Environmental Subsidy in Agriculture (RMP) is designed to stimulate increased environmental efforts in agriculture beyond what is possible through national schemes. Each county has its own environmental program covering a range of environmental themes including cultural landscape, biodiversity, cultural monuments and environments, outdoor recreation, runoff to water, emissions to air, plant protection, soil and soil health, and environmental agreements. The subsidies are paid directly to farmers/enterprises that meet the conditions for the various measures. The County Governor in each county receives a financial framework through agricultural agreements and determines which measures and measure classes should be included in the regional environmental program, as well as setting subsidy rates. This scheme provides grants for carrying out specific environmental measures on owned farms or leased land. Applicants must operate regular agricultural production on one or more agricultural properties and be registered in the Business Register. The measures are determined based on what the County Governor sees as the biggest environmental challenges in each county, focusing on reducing pollution to water and air, preserving cultural landscapes and cultural monuments, facilitating outdoor recreation, and preserving biological diversity.

Tilskudd til miljøtiltak i skog

Landbruksdirektoratet

This grant program from the Norwegian Agriculture Directorate provides subsidies for environmental measures in forests. The program supports activities that preserve and develop environmental values related to biological diversity, landscape, outdoor recreation, and cultural heritage in forests. Forest owners can apply for funding for three types of measures: care measures (additional costs or losses when implementing measures to preserve and develop environmental values), long-term preservation (partial coverage of economic losses related to preserving special environmental values where consideration requires the forest owner to refrain from logging or modify forest management), and wilderness-like areas (coverage of additional costs in forestry to avoid road construction that would reduce wilderness-like areas). The environmental measures must be mapped, environmental values must be demonstrable and documented, and additional costs or losses must be sufficiently documented. Awards require a 10-year agreement with the municipality.
