Applied Human Sciences Equitable and Inclusive Access Award
The Applied Human Sciences Equitable and Inclusive Access Award is granted to a full-time undergraduate student who has demonstrated involvement in ensuring equitable and inclusive access to food and/or physical activity. Preference will be given to students in the Foods and Nutrition or Kinesiology programs. This award was established by Dr. Katherine Gottschall-Pass, professor in the Applied Human Sciences department at the University of Prince Edward Island. Dr. Gottschall-Pass, a Registered Dietitian and former Interim Vice-President Academic and Research, was instrumental in leading the development of the UPEI CRC EDI Action Plan and the UPEI EDI Strategy. The award acknowledges Applied Human Sciences students who have an interest in supporting equity and inclusive access to food and/or physical activity. Applicants must demonstrate in their personal statement how they fit the criteria for this award.
Adam and Sonya Balderston Awards
The Adam and Sonya Balderston Awards provide financial support to returning undergraduate students at the University of Prince Edward Island who demonstrate significant financial need. Two awards of $1,000 each are granted annually: one to a student in the Faculty of Business program, and another to a student in a health sciences-related program such as Nursing, Paramedicine, Foods and Nutrition, or Kinesiology. These awards were established through a multi-year commitment by Adam and Sonya Balderston, who are generous community benefactors dedicated to supporting education at UPEI. The Balderstons have been giving to UPEI since 2003, and their gift is pledged over five consecutive years with installments of $3,000 per year. Adam is an investment advisor who graduated from UPEI in 1997 with a BBA in accounting, while Sonya is a registered nurse who graduated from UPEI in 1997 with a BScN. Their commitment reflects their deep care for making a positive impact in their community through supporting students in greatest financial need.
