V M Oughton Memorial Scholarship
The V M Oughton Memorial Scholarship is available due to a generous donation and supports North East applicants with a low household income who are looking to commence an undergraduate degree at Durham University in October 2026. Preference will be given to applicants from Hebburn and Jarrow. The scholarship provides £5,000 per year for each year of the undergraduate programme, up to a maximum of four years. Applicants must have a household income below £42,875 based on an assessment carried out by Student Finance England and be permanently resident in one of the following postcode areas: CA, DH, DL, NE, SR, TS. The scholarship is open to applicants for all undergraduate programmes, including Foundation Years if applicable. Only one award is available per year. All eligible applications will be considered on the basis of their personal statement, reference and academic status at Durham University.
Global Sports Award: International Scholarships
Durham University is offering a number of Global Sports Awards for European and International fee-paying undergraduate students entering in 2026/27. These awards support tuition fee costs for candidates who demonstrate the ability to compete in high performance sport. The scholarship provides up to £5,000 per year, subject to sport performance level, and is designed to attract talented athletes to participate in University or College sport at Durham. Preference is given to applicants from USA, Canada, and South Africa, though candidates from other countries can also be considered. Up to 20 awards are available for full-time on-campus undergraduate programmes, excluding foundation programmes and all Law programmes. Recipients must be completely self-funding and classified as European or International for fee purposes, and must agree to actively participate in University or College sport at Durham University while also engaging in marketing and communications activities for the institution.
Glaister Northern Scholarships
The Glaister Northern Scholarships are specifically designed to support low household income applicants from the North East and Cumbria who wish to study an undergraduate degree at Durham University. Two scholarships are available annually providing £4,000 per academic year. The award is divided into £2,500 for tuition and residential costs, and £1,500 for internships, international experience, or wider student experience activities. The scholarship is renewable for the duration of the undergraduate programme at Durham University, up to a maximum of 4 years funding. Applicants must have a household income below £42,875 as determined by Student Finance and be permanently resident in specific postcode regions (CA, DH, DL, LA, NE, SR, TS), with preference given to applicants in CA and LA postcode regions. The scholarship is available for all undergraduate programmes, including Foundation Years if applicable.
Durham Inspired North East Scholarships
The Durham Inspired: North East Scholarships have been specifically designed to support applicants from the North East of England who wish to undertake an undergraduate degree at Durham University. The scholarship provides £4,000 per academic year for the duration of the undergraduate programme, for a maximum of 4 years. This funding opportunity is aimed at supporting low-income applicants who are resident in specific North East postal regions including County Durham and surrounding areas. The scholarship is available for all undergraduate programmes at Durham University and is designed to help students from the local region access higher education. Three awards are available for applicants commencing their studies in 2026.
