Innlandet fylkeskommune offers grants for the preservation of historic vessels. Private owners and managers of protected or preserved ships (freda eller verna fartøy) can apply for funding to support restoration and maintenance activities. The county council has been responsible for vessel grants since 2020. The grant program is designed to support the conservation of culturally and historically significant vessels that have been granted protected status by Riksantikvaren (the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage). The program provides funding for securing, restoration, and maintenance of these protected vessels. The funding level varies depending on the type of intervention required, and the total available funding varies annually based on allocations from the national budget. Applications are evaluated collectively and approved grants are valid for three years, providing flexibility for project implementation.

This grant supports professional development projects in vessel preservation in Norway. The program aims to preserve and pass on the craftsmanship knowledge needed for antiquarian restoration and maintenance of protected and preserved vessels. The funding encompasses two schemes: core activities at three national vessel preservation centers, and project grants for professional development in vessel preservation. Projects can include documentation of crafts and vessels, knowledge collection and dissemination, and research on the technical and antiquarian possibilities for climate and environmental measures in the preservation fleet.
