This grant program provides economic support for privately owned protected buildings from before 1537 (medieval period). The goal is to ensure these buildings are maintained at a normal level while preserving their historical value. These structures are among the oldest wooden buildings in the world, and great emphasis is placed on preserving authentic materials. The program supports restoration, conservation of fixed inventory, securing and heavier maintenance work that brings the building to a normal maintenance level, as well as initiatives that contribute to documentation, knowledge development and research on medieval buildings. Grants are provided from the state budget.

This grant program supports the maintenance, conservation, and documentation of Norwegian stave churches. The program is administered by Riksantikvaren (the Directorate for Cultural Heritage Management) and provides funding for essential preservation work on these historic wooden churches from the medieval period. The program aims to support important maintenance and restoration projects, as well as documentation initiatives and research that contribute to increased knowledge about stave churches as a building group and typology. Funding is available to owners and managers of stave churches, as well as research environments and projects working within the program's objectives. Priority is given to critical maintenance and restoration projects, documentation measures, and initiatives that enhance understanding of stave churches.

This grant program from the Directorate for Cultural Heritage Management (Riksantikvaren) supports the conservation of church art in Norway. Church art includes inventory, art, and decorative elements in church buildings. The program provides funding for professional conservation work carried out by certified conservators who are members of the Nordic Conservator Federation - Norway (NKF-N). Riksantikvaren prioritizes funding based on the art's value, age, and condition. Eligible costs include planning, safeguarding, conservation, travel and accommodation, transportation, insurance, reporting and dissemination of church art as part of conservation and safeguarding work where a professionally trained conservator has been commissioned. The program does not cover scaffolding or other arrangements in the church, restoration of interior and architectural elements, replacement of parts, or preliminary projects.
