Skempton Scholarship
The Skempton Scholarship is a doctoral scholarship offered by Imperial College London's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The scholarship covers Home tuition fees for up to 3 years and provides maintenance at the UKRI London rate for 3.5 years. These scholarships are open to all applicants and could provide partial funding for overseas students. Skempton scholarships can be offered on a part-time basis and include provision for sickness, maternity and paternity pay. Applicants must be pursuing a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering and must be nominated by an academic supervisor. Students should achieve a First Class Degree result (or International equivalent) in engineering or another numerate discipline, and a Masters level degree qualification with distinction.
Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship
The Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship is a fully funded programme open to students ordinarily resident in Sub-Saharan Africa. PhD research projects must also have a direct relevance to challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa. The scholarship provides full tuition fees at the overseas rate and a stipend of at least £22,000 per annum. Students must have a good Upper Second or First Class Degree (or International equivalent), in engineering or another numerate discipline and a Masters level degree qualification. This scholarship is available for the 2026/2027 academic year and is offered through the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. One award is available for full-time doctoral study.
Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship
The Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship is a fully funded doctoral program offered by Imperial College London's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This scholarship is specifically designed for students ordinarily resident in Sub-Saharan Africa whose PhD research projects have direct relevance to challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa. The scholarship provides comprehensive funding including full tuition fees at the overseas rate and an annual stipend of at least £22,000. Applicants must hold a good Upper Second or First Class Degree (or international equivalent) in engineering or another numerate discipline, as well as a Masters level degree qualification. The scholarship supports full-time doctoral research in Civil and Environmental Engineering. To apply, prospective students must first identify and contact potential PhD supervisors, then submit a PhD application through the Registry online admissions system by May 23, 2025, after a potential academic supervisor has expressed sufficient interest in their application.
Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship

The programme is funded by a generous endowed gift from the late Professor Shawki Saad, with one scholarship awarded each year between 2023-2027. Students should achieve a First Class Degree result (or International equivalent) in engineering or another numerate discipline, and hold a Masters level degree qualification with distinction. Projects must have direct relevance to challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa. The scholarship covers full tuition fees at the overseas rate and provides a stipend at the UKRI London rate, plus travel and visa costs.
