UPEI Student Union Adversity Award
The UPEI Student Union Adversity Award is granted to a student who has experienced unexpected hardship in the past year which has greatly impacted their personal circumstances and capacity to continue their studies. Examples of unexpected hardship may be due to economic, financial, political, societal, family or personal events beyond the student's control. All student information provided in applications will remain strictly confidential and recipients of this award will not be publicized or promoted. The UPEI Student Union was founded in 1970 as a not-for-profit organization representing full-time students at UPEI. It is dedicated to fostering pride in the university, the betterment of university life, and enhancing the student experience at UPEI. As a unifying body, the UPEI Student Union strives to provide leadership while assisting students as they obtain the highest standards in their academic and personal life; enhancing their quality of life now and into the future. The UPEI Student Union Adversity Award was created in 2019 through an endowed gift from the UPEI Student Union.
UPEI Student Adversity Entrance Scholarship
The UPEI Student Adversity Entrance Scholarship is granted to international students entering the University of Prince Edward Island from a Prince Edward Island high school who have experienced unexpected hardship in the past year that has greatly impacted their personal circumstances and capacity to study at the University. Eligible hardships include economic, financial, political, societal, family or personal events beyond the student's control. Candidates must be graduates of PEI high schools who do not qualify for Canadian Permanent Resident status and are from war zones as defined by the University based on internationally recognized lists of war-torn countries. The scholarship is renewable over students' second, third, and fourth year of study provided they remain in good academic standing throughout their studies while carrying a minimum full-time course load of 18 semester hours over the academic year. The intention of the scholarship is to offset international fees for eligible students in good academic standing pursuing full-time studies. UPEI Student Adversity Award
The UPEI Student Adversity Award is granted to returning UPEI students who have experienced unexpected hardship in the past year that has greatly impacted their personal circumstances and capacity to continue their studies. Examples of unexpected hardship may include economic, financial, political, societal, family or personal events beyond the student's control. Eligible students must be in good academic standing based on their most recent academic year and be registered in full-time studies. All student information provided in applications will remain strictly confidential and recipients will not be publicized or promoted in any manner. The University of Prince Edward Island initiated the UPEI Student Adversity Awards in 2018 to support UPEI students facing unexpected hardship during their studies.
