Silas Palmer Fellowship

Hoover Institution Library & Archives

The Silas Palmer Fellowship provides financial support to undergraduate and graduate students for research based on the Hoover Institution Library & Archives collections. Established in 1960 by Silas Palmer to honor his late wife Olive Holbrook Palmer, the fellowship supports students whose studies involve substantial use of library and archival materials located at the Hoover Institution. The fellowship offers an award of up to $5,000 to support research based on the collections. Recipients are expected to spend a minimum of ten days at the Hoover Institution Library & Archives directly accessing collection materials in the reading room. Recipients must complete their research and post-visit summary report within one year of the cohort period. The Palmers, coming from founding families of the Bay Area, established their estate in Elmwood in Atherton and provided opportunities to fund students at Stanford starting in the 1930s. Today, the Silas Palmer Fellowship is offered to both Stanford and non-Stanford students residing in the United States.
