This grant program provides financial support to breeding organizations in Norway to contribute to breeding progress and populations of healthy livestock adapted to Norwegian environment and climate. The grant aims to ensure genetic variation in populations based on sustainable principles with sufficiently large effective breeding populations and inclusion of functional traits in breeding goals. The program requires collaboration with Norsk genressurssenter to ensure genetic resources in small vulnerable populations of traditional Norwegian breeds are preserved. Organizations can apply for support for breeding initiatives aligned with the program's purpose, with a total budget of 16.8 million Norwegian kroner for 2024.
