Covert Township Community Foundation Scholarship

The board of the Covert Township Community Foundation established this scholarship to provide Covert Township students funding to help finance post-secondary education or training. The scholarship funds may be applied to any items under the school's cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance.

Eva L. Ozier Scholarship for Today's Students

This multiyear scholarship is intended to provide financial support to Black students with at least a two year break in their education. The scholarship was established by Mrs. Ozier's family to honor her for the many contributions she has made to the community of Kalamazoo and as a way for her to give back to her community for years to come. The scholarship provides $1,000 annually and is renewable, allowing recipients to receive continued support throughout their educational journey. Recipients must be residents of Kalamazoo County or have graduated from a high school within Kalamazoo County, demonstrate financial need, and be enrolled in associate degree, bachelor's degree, or vocational/trade certification programs.

Welch's/National Grape Cooperative Scholarship

This company-sponsored scholarship offers financial support for higher education for students with a connection to Welch's or the National Grape Cooperative. The scholarship was established by Welch's to provide financial support for higher education to children or grandchildren of employees of the Welch's plant in Lawton, Michigan; or children or grandchildren of members of the National Grape Cooperative who reside in Allegan, Berrien, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, Kent or Van Buren County. This is a multiyear scholarship that is eligible to repeat annually up to 2 times. The scholarship award is $1,000 and can be applied to any items under your school's cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance. Payments are sent directly to the institution and split between fall and spring semesters.

Women's Education Coalition Grant

This multiyear grant helps women who are unemployed or struggling to support themselves and their families. The grant provides financial assistance of $2000+ annually and is renewable each year up to degree or program completion. Established by a coalition of four member organizations: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, YWCA Kalamazoo and the former Kalamazoo Network, this education grant supports women who are underemployed or unemployed and returning to education after at least a three-year break from school. The scholarship is designed to assist recipients in reaching goals of increased financial independence through post-high school education. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the educational institution and may be applied to any items under the school's cost of attendance including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance.

High on Heroes Scholarship

The High on Heroes Scholarship was established in 1993 by High on Heroes Inc. (a local air show) to provide scholarship assistance for post-high school education for family members of law enforcement, firefighters, public safety, and emergency personnel employed in Kalamazoo County. Special consideration will be given to applicants who are related to persons who died while employed by a qualifying agency. Even greater consideration may be given to applicants related to an employee who died in the line of duty. This is a multiyear scholarship that is eligible to repeat annually up to 4 times. The scholarship funds can be applied to any items under the school's cost of attendance (COA) such as tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the educational institution and split evenly between fall and spring semesters.

The Montague Myers Scholarship

The Montague Myers Scholarship, established in 1996, honors the legacy of Montague Myers, a Kalamazoo interior designer and member of the American Society of Interior Designers. This fund supports individuals who have faced significant childhood hardships and aspire to further their education, empowering them to overcome their past challenges and pursue their academic and vocational dreams. This is a multiyear scholarship that is eligible to repeat annually up to 4 times. The scholarship provides $1000 or more to support students pursuing various educational paths including associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, graduate degrees, or vocational/trade certifications. Applicants must be residents of Kalamazoo County or graduating/graduated from a high school within Kalamazoo County, demonstrate financial need, and have a history of abuse, abandonment or neglect as a child. The scholarship can be applied to any items under a school's cost of attendance including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, health insurance, and other educational expenses.

Michael J. & Frances D. Peikert Scholarship Fund

The Michael J. & Frances D. Peikert Scholarship was established to provide scholarship support for Kalamazoo County residents enrolled or planning to enroll in vocational/technical training or degree-granting institutions. This is a multiyear scholarship that can be applied to any items under your school's cost of attendance including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance. The scholarship is renewable annually up to 4 times and can be used alongside other scholarships or funding. Love Where You Live: Scholarship Fund

The Love Where You Live: Scholarship Fund was established by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation's board of trustees to invest in the educational aspirations of Kalamazoo County residents. Jerry A. & M. Christine Walker Scholarship

The Jerry A. and M. Christine Walker Scholarship was established in 2019 by Christine Walker to provide financial assistance for Kalamazoo County residents or persons who have graduated from a school within Kalamazoo County. The purpose of the scholarship is to help students reach their goals of increased financial independence through employment. This multiyear award renews annually and provides $1,000 to support students pursuing associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, or vocational/trade certification. The scholarship is particularly focused on students whose families have immigrated to the United States and who demonstrate financial need. Recipients can be high school seniors or current undergraduate students attending full-time or part-time.

Dr. Jack & Charlene Sauer Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. Jack and Charlene Sauer to support scholarships for higher education for graduating high school seniors from Schoolcraft High School who plan to enroll in a Michigan vocational or technical school or a two- or four-year college or university. The scholarship provides up to $1,000 annually and is renewable for up to four years. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and attend a college or program in Michigan. Earl Haas Scholarship

Kreager Family Scholarship

The Kreager Family Scholarship was established in 2001 by the Kreager family to provide financial assistance to college-bound graduating high school seniors that have suffered the loss of a parent or parents through death or abandonment after infancy. This one-time, non-renewable award of $2,000 or more is designed to support students from Kalamazoo County who demonstrate financial need and are pursuing higher education. The scholarship can be applied to any items under the school's cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance. Eligible students may be pursuing associate's degrees, bachelor's degrees, or vocational/trade certifications on either a full-time or part-time basis. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the educational institution and distributed evenly between fall and spring semesters. Students must be residents of Kalamazoo County or graduating from a high school within Kalamazoo County or from South Haven High School. David & Barbara Kruse Paw Paw High School Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Barbara Kruse and the late David Kruse to provide meaningful financial support to Paw Paw High School graduating seniors or graduates of Paw Paw High School, who are planning to pursue training in technical fields. The scholarship supports students pursuing associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, graduate degrees, or vocational/trade certifications. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and be pursuing a course of study leading to a career in a technical field. Peter & Inez Schonveld Scholarship

This scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of Inez Schonveld to provide scholarship assistance to graduating high school seniors and graduates of the Kalamazoo Public School District. The scholarship provides financial support of $1000 or more as a one-time, non-renewable award to help students pursue their educational goals. Students must demonstrate financial need, determination, and good citizenship. The scholarship can be used for any items under the school's cost of attendance including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance. Both full-time and part-time enrollment is acceptable.

George K. & Lois D. Stegman Scholarship Fund

The George K. and Lois D. Stegman Scholarship was established to invest in the higher education of residents of Kalamazoo County or students graduating from a high school within Kalamazoo County. This scholarship supports students who have played four years of soccer during high school and demonstrate competitive spirit, leadership, and a desire to give back to others. The scholarship is renewable annually and can be applied to any items under the school's cost of attendance including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance. Financial need must be demonstrated by applicants.

Wade & Clio Van Valkenburg Scholarship

The Wade & Clio Van Valkenburg Scholarship was established in 2004 through the Wade Van Valkenburg Trust to provide educational scholarships for Kalamazoo County students facing financial hardship or challenges in their education due to past legal issues or accusations. The scholarship honors Circuit Court Judge Wade Van Valkenburg, who served in Kalamazoo for six years and was deeply concerned about youth in the community, especially those who have had to overcome circumstances or obstacles that may otherwise hinder them from seeking training or higher education. This one-time, non-renewable scholarship provides a minimum of $1,000 to help students pursue associates degrees, bachelor's degrees, or vocational/trade certifications. The scholarship is specifically designed for students who have been found guilty of a criminal offense and demonstrate financial need. It can be applied to any items under the school's cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, and health insurance. Applications are submitted through the Kalamazoo Community Foundation's all-in-one online application system, with a March 1 deadline each year. Recipients are notified between April and June, and scholarship payments are sent directly to educational institutions by mid-July to August. This scholarship represents a unique opportunity for students with past legal challenges to access higher education and transform their lives.

Weber Specialties Company Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Weber Specialties Company located in Schoolcraft, Michigan to support students pursuing a certificate or two-year or four-year degree in a manufacturing curriculum. The scholarship provides financial assistance of $500 or more to students pursuing manufacturing-related fields such as Manufacturing Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Integrated Supply Management, or Engineering Graphics and Design Technology. Applicants must be residents of Kalamazoo County or graduating from or graduated from a high school within Kalamazoo County and demonstrate financial need. This is a one-time, non-renewable award that can be applied to any items under the school's cost of attendance including tuition, fees, housing, transportation, food, health insurance, and other educational expenses. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the educational institution and distributed between fall and spring semesters.

LPEA Lineworker Scholarship

LPEA is giving away two scholarships for high school graduating students interested in becoming lineworkers. Each winner receives $12,000 for tuition, fees, and books for up to one year at an electrical lineworker school. Any overages following payment of tuition and fees can be used to pay for required and necessary tools and supplies. Applicants must be members of LPEA and high school graduates from schools within LPEA's service territory, including Durango, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs, and Ignacio. Recipients must enroll as first-year students at an accredited vocational school, technical school, junior college, or university in the U.S. and major in an electric lineworker program. The scholarship application is available from December 1 to March 1, with winners notified in April. Applicants must submit an essay or video explaining their interest in becoming a lineworker, a high school transcript, and two letters of recommendation.

LPEA John Voelker Memorial Scholarships

The LPEA John Voelker Memorial Scholarships are designed to encourage careers with rural electric cooperatives by providing financial support to high school graduating students pursuing higher education. Two scholarships are awarded annually, each providing $5,000 per year for two years to cover tuition, fees, books, tools, and supplies. Recipients must be LPEA members who are high school graduates from within LPEA's service territory (including Durango, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs, and Ignacio) and must enroll as first-year students at any accredited institution of higher education in the U.S., including vocational schools, technical schools, junior colleges, or universities. The program focuses on students whose academic majors or programs lead to degrees, certifications, or licenses related to rural electric industry careers. To maintain eligibility for the second year, students must remain enrolled full-time, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and complete at least 15 academic credits each term.
