About

Koda Kultur is the cultural funding arm of Koda, a Danish collective rights management organization for composers, songwriters, and music publishers. Each year, Koda allocates a portion of its revenues to cultural purposes. Koda Kultur supports three main strategic areas: gender balance and diversity in the music industry, strengthening the music ecosystem's supply chain for sustainable professional music creation, and promoting international export and exchange of Danish music.

Funding Opportunities

Writing Camps (A-ophold)

The Writing Camps program provides composers and songwriters with inspiration, new skills and insights into music, and opportunities to create new music together through specially planned, professional courses. Writing Camps can take place in Denmark or abroad and typically last between four to seven days. Koda Kultur offers approximately 12 camps of this kind per year. The program is designed to support all Koda members who are interested in the relevant genre or subject addressed by each specific camp. Successful applicants receive funding that covers participation in the writing camp, including travel costs, hotel accommodation, planned events, and to some extent, catering. Participants pay either DKK 1,000 or DKK 2,000 to take part in the camp, depending on the nature of the specific camp.

The work grant is designed for composers and sound artists who want to immerse themselves in compositional work and who work experimentally and boundary-pushing with music and sound driven by artistic curiosity. Grants are available on varying scales: large working grants of DKK 50,000 or DKK 75,000, and small working grants from DKK 10,000 to DKK 40,000. The Elite Grant

The Elite Grant is targeted at the professional elite, whose production conditions and costs are significantly higher than other projects, but where the project has the potential to increase Danish rights income and exports significantly to the benefit of the Danish music industry in general. The goal of the grant is also to keep rights within the Danish rights collection system. The grant supports larger and longer-term projects that can take a music creator's career to the next level, such as major international pushes through travel or promotional work, or increased activity in the Danish market. Applicants must be Koda members who have earned at least DKK 150,000 in Koda income over the last three years, or demonstrate involvement in a project targeting broader commercial markets with a release in the pipeline. Grants typically range between DKK 50,000 and DKK 150,000 and support most project-related expenses except general operating costs or per diem expenses.

More Sound Residency

Inter Arts Center (IAC) and the Danish Composers' Society offer a residency program at IAC for Danish composers and sound-based artists who work with experimental music and/or sound-based art. This Swedish-Danish collaboration is aimed at practitioners focused on artistic or scientific development through sonic and musical experimentation and exploration. The residency allows an individual artist or a group of artists to create their own project with sound as the focal point in the interdisciplinary environment at IAC.
