Funding Opportunities
Frank and Helen DiGiammarino Scholarship
The Frank and Helen DiGiammarino Scholarship supports Commonwealth Honors College (CHC) students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who are participating in summer community service learning or community-engaged research. This scholarship provides financial assistance to students engaged in meaningful community work during the summer months. Students may apply during their freshman, sophomore, or junior year, making it accessible to undergraduates at multiple stages of their academic career. The scholarship aims to encourage and support student involvement in community service and research that benefits local communities.
CHC Conference Travel Grants
The Commonwealth Honors College (CHC) Conference Travel Grants provide funding for CHC students in Good Standing to attend or present at national or international conferences. Students accepted to present at a conference are eligible for up to $750 to fund travel costs including airfare, lodging, ground transportation, food, and conference registration costs. Students wishing to attend a conference relevant to their studies without presenting are eligible for up to $400. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted, with students allowed to submit one application per academic year. Recipients must submit receipts for conference travel-related costs that meet or exceed the award amount. Funds are disbursed through the Financial Aid office and received as a refund via Excess Express.
Abraham Bohn Scholarship
The Abraham Bohn Scholarship was established to provide renewable scholarship support to children of veterans with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Priority will be given to undergraduate students who are children of veterans receiving benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs program, Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) or the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship. Preference will be given to students who are also in Commonwealth Honors College. Should the fund provide sufficient funding to meet the demonstrated financial need of undergraduates receiving Chapter 35 benefits, the pool of potential recipients will be opened to include other undergraduate children of veterans with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid, including those receiving transferred benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33).
