About this opportunity
UFAW Animal Welfare Student Scholarships provide up to £3600 to enable students to develop their interests in animal welfare science. Students are encouraged to carry out their own project (whether research or educational) with the aim of contributing to our growing knowledge of how best to assess, or improve, the welfare of animals – be they farm animals, animals in zoos, pets, animals used in scientific research, or those we interact with in the wild. The projects will be relatively small, due to their short duration and the early career stage of the students. Animal welfare must be the main focus of the project, and projects focused on conservation or the improvement of livestock yield are not supported. The scheme has been running since 1983 and has supported over 450 scholars. The Ruth Harrison Student Scholarship is a special designation awarded to one high-quality project addressing the welfare of farmed animals, established with support from the Farm Animal Care Trust in memory of Ruth Harrison.
