About This Opportunity

This AstraZeneca-Funded Non-Clinical PhD Studentship covers an index-linked student stipend for 4 years, tuition fees (at Home rate only) and an allocation towards project consumables and training. The successful student will become part of a cohort of Cambridge-AstraZeneca students who will spend time at both institutions over the course of their PhD and come together as a group for training and social events. The successful student will be working on a collaborative project on understanding how exercise protects against heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) – a major, under-recognised condition linked to obesity, insulin resistance, and hypertension. The work will combine molecular, cellular, and physiological approaches, including multi-omics, mass spectrometry imaging, and preclinical cardiometabolic models. Supervision will be provided by Dr Ana Vujic (primary academic), Prof Antonio Vidal-Puig (Cambridge), Dr Karin Jennbacken and Dr Andreas Dannhorn (AstraZeneca). The studentship is offered through the School of Clinical Medicine, Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge. Applicants should hold (or expect to hold) at least a 2:1 degree or Master's in a relevant discipline. Prior lab experience is required, with data analysis and small animal model skills being advantageous.
