About this opportunity
The Belinda Frances Hughes Piano Scholarship is designed to assist students undertaking studies in piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney. Established in 2023, the scholarship is funded from the estate of John Lowe Whitting Hughes. The scholarship is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including those pursuing coursework or research degrees.
The scholarship can be awarded on either a merit or equity basis. For merit-based awards, no application is required as students are automatically considered as part of their admission application to the Conservatorium. For equity scholarships, students must submit an application when applications are open. The scholarship value and duration are determined at the discretion of the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Selection criteria include academic merit, personal statement, demonstrated evidence of disadvantage, and/or portfolio and performance. For postgraduate research applicants, research achievements and potential may also be considered. Applicants may be required to attend an interview. The scholarship is offered subject to the availability of funds and provides financial support to talented piano students to pursue their musical education at one of Australia's leading music conservatories.
