About This Opportunity

The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) offers grants for centres of excellence to support the establishment and development of research environments that promote research collaborations around a common theme and contribute to higher education. The call is open to applications with innovative and interdisciplinary questions within all areas. The funding aims to help Swedish research continue to be internationally leading and enable new research areas to emerge. The centres should be based on a central theme or research question defined by the applicant. Around this theme, a centre for research and education activities should be built up. An overarching goal for the centre should be to contribute to the development of new interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary research areas and innovative research approaches. The centre should offer program activities within the overall thematic area and create conditions for researchers from different established research disciplines to join for shorter or longer periods. Beyond program activities, centres should also include components such as international guest researchers, research schools, and/or recruitment of well-merited young researchers in international competition (up to 7 years after doctoral degree). Centres should also operate within higher education (master's and doctoral education) and actively communicate with/involve the surrounding society in their activities.
