About this opportunity
The Canadian Japanese Mennonite Scholarship was created as a tangible symbol of co-operation between Canadian Japanese and Canadian Mennonites subsequent to a formal apology that was offered to Canadian Japanese by Mennonite Central Committee Canada on behalf of Canadian Mennonites. The scholarship is intended to assist the protection of minority and human rights in Canada, and to reduce the potential for abuse of cultural minorities such as that suffered by Japanese Canadians during World War II.
The scholarship provides $3,000 CAD to support graduate students engaged in research related to protecting minority or human rights in Canada. This award recognizes the historical importance of defending cultural minorities and supports contemporary research that advances human rights protections.
Eligible students must be enrolled in a graduate degree program at a Canadian university and conducting research that directly contributes to the protection of minority or human rights in Canada. The scholarship is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students studying in Canada.
