About this opportunity
The Cinthya Felix Scholarship was developed in 2011 to assist undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. The scholarship honors Cinthya Felix, who grew up in East Los Angeles, graduated from UCLA in 2007, and was the first undocumented student to attend Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. She was instrumental in founding UCLA IDEAS, a group dedicated to supporting AB 540 students, and wanted to become a physician to serve her community before she died in a car accident in 2010 at age 26.
This scholarship supports students committed to pursuing a career in medicine and serving Latino and underserved communities. Applicants must demonstrate a desire to advance healthcare and education in Latino and underserved communities through leadership in extracurricular activities and/or membership in civic organizations. LMSA-West awards three scholarship recipients with $500 each annually.
Eligibility includes being a sophomore level or higher at a 4-year university or post-baccalaureate student, regardless of immigration or citizenship status. Strong consideration is placed upon financial need. Applicants must be dues-paying pre-med members of LMSA-West and residents or students attending school within the LMSA-West region states.
