About this opportunity
The Disabled Facilities Grant is a means-tested grant program offered by Ashford Borough Council to help disabled individuals and households make necessary adaptations to their properties. The grant is designed to make homes more accessible and suitable for disabled occupants, ensuring they can live independently and safely. The authority works in partnership with Kent County Council Social Services and requires a recommendation from an occupational therapist detailing the required adaptations. The maximum grant available is £30,000. Eligible works include modifications to facilitate entry and exit from the home, making properties safer, improving access to key rooms like bedrooms and bathrooms, adapting cooking facilities, improving heating systems, and providing better access to gardens. Grant applicants can be owner-occupiers, private sector tenants, private sector landlords, or housing association tenants. The disabled person and any partner are normally means tested to determine their contribution to the cost of works, though if the disabled person is a child, the means test is suspended. Under certain circumstances, applicants can be passported to a non-contributory grant.
