About This Opportunity

The Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) offers residential postdoctoral fellowships in Hellenic Studies for the 2026-27 academic year. Fellows are appointed either for a term of up to sixteen weeks in the fall or spring, or for a full academic year. The purpose of the residential fellowship program is to encourage and support scholarship of the highest quality on topics related to ancient Greek civilization including archaeology, art history, epigraphy, history, literary criticism, philology, philosophy, pedagogical applications, reception, and interdisciplinary studies. The program aims to foster interaction among researchers from diverse backgrounds and regions of the world. Fellowships include a stipend, housing at the CHS, and subsidized health insurance. The stipend is a maximum of $25,000 for the sixteen-week term or $52,500 for the full year, adjusted for individual circumstances. Additional support is available for professional travel and research expenses, ranging from $1,500 for single-term fellows to $3,000 for full-year fellows. The CHS also assists with travel expenses to and from Washington, DC, and all fellows receive one-year access to Harvard library resources. The CHS welcomes projects with a traditional basis in Classics and those that adopt collaborative or interdisciplinary approaches drawn from fields across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
