About this opportunity
The Gunnerus Award in Sustainability Science is an international research prize founded by the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS) and first awarded in 2012. From 2017, it has been jointly awarded every other year with Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The award honors outstanding scientific work for global sustainable development and aims to promote research and strengthen the scientific basis of sustainability. Named after Johan Ernst Gunnerus, the founder of DKNVS, the award carries a monetary prize of NOK 1 million. The award recognizes researchers who have made significant contributions to sustainability science globally, with past laureates including Kamal Bawa (2012), Carl Folke (2017), and Sandra M. Díaz (2019). The prize reflects Norway's longstanding commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, inspired by the legacy of the Brundtland Commission and Norway's pioneering role in environmental policy.
