About this opportunity
The Iranian Student Memorial Scholarship is a needs-based award established by the University of Toronto to honour those who lost their lives in the crash of Ukrainian International Airlines Flight PS752, including eight members of the University of Toronto community. This endowed fund provides financial assistance to international graduate students from Iran who have been admitted to U of T or students from any background studying Iranian studies at the university. The scholarship aims to support graduate students pursuing master's or doctoral programs who demonstrate financial need, with priority given to applicants not receiving other major sources of graduate funding or financial support.
The scholarship provides up to $10,000 to one recipient annually and is designed to help students achieve their academic objectives and long-range goals. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a graduate program at the University of Toronto and demonstrate financial need through a comprehensive assessment process. The award recognizes both the academic potential of students and their financial circumstances, ensuring that deserving students with Iranian citizenship or those studying Iranian studies can pursue their graduate education at U of T.
First awarded in Spring 2020 for the 2020-21 academic year, this memorial scholarship continues to honor the victims of Flight PS752 while supporting the educational aspirations of graduate students. The scholarship reflects the university's commitment to supporting international students and fostering academic excellence in Iranian studies and related fields.
