About this opportunity

The Katharine Ogilvie Memorial Award is a postgraduate research scholarship that supports MPhil or PhD students studying in the University of Sydney School of Education and Social Work to undertake research in social work. Established in 1988 from donations received from a group of retired social workers, this scholarship honors pioneer social worker Katharine Ogilvie. Katharine Ogilvie graduated from the University of Sydney in 1924 with a Bachelor of Arts. She was a pioneer social worker of clear vision, undaunted enthusiasm and boundless energy, and was one of a small number of people whose efforts established social work as a profession in Australia. The scholarship provides $10,000 to support research activities and is awarded on the basis of academic merit, curriculum vitae, area of study and research proposal, detailed budget, list of publications, a letter of reference from a supervisor, and a personal statement demonstrating need for the scholarship. Recipients must be eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers and maintain receipts for all costs incurred for up to one year.
