About This Opportunity

The Dr Helen Marchant-Pritchard Memorial Scholarship was established in 1987 following donations received from the family, friends and colleagues of Helen Marchant, a distinguished teacher and researcher in the Department of Social Work. This scholarship supports master's by research or PhD students to undertake research in the areas of social welfare and social work at the University of Sydney. The scholarship assists with costs of materials, equipment, or services to support the intended research, travel costs to attend conferences or complete data collection internationally, interstate or outside Sydney, or other costs related to the conduct of research. Eligible applicants must be enrolled full-time in the Sydney School of Education and Social Work and undertake research in the field of social work and/or social policy in at least one of the following areas: social work and social change, gender and social welfare, women, work and technology, immigration, or social welfare and social work. Applicants must hold an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class upper) or a Master's degree in a related field with a substantial research component, or equivalent, and must have a professional background in social work and/or social policy. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, area of study and research proposal, relevant work experience and publications, proposed budget, proposed itinerary, letter of reference from a supervisor, and a personal statement demonstrating need for the scholarship. Scholarship recipients are required to provide a report on how the scholarship assisted with their studies on completion of the research or the part of the research supported by the scholarship. Any published work arising from the scholarship should be duly acknowledged.
