About this opportunity

The Lake Placid Education Foundation makes grants to qualified organizations on an annual basis. Although grants can be made elsewhere, primary support goes to applicants in the Adirondack region area of New York State. The foundation was established through the sale of copyright for the Dewey Decimal Classification system invented by founder Melvil Dewey. Today, LPEF supports libraries, schools, arts organizations, and other nonprofits throughout the Adirondacks. Grants support schools for scholarships, equipment, and operating expenses; libraries for collection additions, staff training, and operations; arts and cultural organizations for educational activities; restoration programs for educators and librarians; and seed-sowing initiatives for new ideas in education and library science. Except in very special circumstances, grants are not awarded for land acquisition, capital campaigns, or endowment purposes, and grants are not made to individuals.
