About this opportunity
This fully funded PhD studentship investigates how environmental and individual factors modify health effects of extreme heat. Using UK Biobank data linked with high-resolution exposure maps from the EXPANSE project, the research will examine how features such as green space, air pollution, urban density, and personal health profiles shape heat-related risks. Outcomes include mortality, hospitalisations for cardiovascular and respiratory disease, and mental-health impacts during heat periods. The studentship is offered by the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) at Imperial College London in collaboration with UKHSA and LSHTM. The position is based at Imperial's White City Campus with hybrid-working arrangements. The student will develop expertise in environmental epidemiology, large-scale data analysis, and exposome modelling, generating evidence to inform heat-health adaptation and equitable climate resilience.
