About this opportunity

The Northwestern Mutual Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist siblings of individuals who are in current treatment, have survived or passed away from childhood cancer who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. The scholarship provides $5,000 awards to eligible applicants who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and community participation. Applicants must be siblings of childhood cancer patients (current, survivors, or deceased) and must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 25 and under. Recipients are selected based on academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, educational and career goals, and a personal impact statement describing how their sibling's childhood cancer affected their life. Financial need must also be demonstrated as calculated by Scholarship America. The program offers 25 awards annually. Students must be high school seniors, graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the United States. Previous recipients are not eligible to reapply, but students who are not selected may reapply in following years if they continue to meet eligibility requirements. Applicants will be notified of awards in April.
