About this opportunity

The Orwell Corner Historic Village Prize is an annual award established by the Orwell Corner Historic Village in recognition of excellence in Island history research. This prize is awarded to a student who is judged to have the best essay in an Island history course which relies primarily on oral sources. Preference is given to events that have occurred in southeastern Prince Edward Island. The award recognizes outstanding scholarly work that utilizes oral history methods to document and preserve the history of the Island community. This prize honors the tradition of the Orwell Corner Historic Village, which opened in July 1973 and represents the late nineteenth-century crossroads community founded by early Scottish settlers, Irish families, and United Empire Loyalists. The village site is currently owned by the Province of Prince Edward Island and administered by the Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation and the Orwell Corner Pioneer Village Corporation.
