About This Opportunity

This scholarship is to support an outstanding PhD scholar to undertake research to optimise the assessment of written health information and to investigate the impact of grade reading level on consumer outcomes, under the supervision of Professor Kirsten McCaffery, Dr Danielle Muscat and Dr Julie Ayre. The PhD candidate will use a mixed methods research approach (quantitative and qualitative) to understand the variability and accuracy of different methods of assessing the health literacy demands of written health information, and how information written at different levels of complexity influences comprehension and other relevant consumer outcomes. The scholarship is supported by the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship and provides funding for up to 3.5 years of full-time PhD study at the School of Public Health within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.
