About this opportunity

This PhD scholarship opportunity focuses on advancing our understanding of how archaeal cell division works at the molecular and cellular levels, and how this compares to other major cell types in the tree of life. The research project aims to answer what are the principles and variations of cell division mechanisms in archaea, bacteria and eukaryotes, and how this knowledge can be used in future applications. The project will utilize modern methods of molecular and cellular biology, including live-cell superresolution fluorescence imaging and protein function studies in vivo and in vitro. Successful candidates will become part of a collegial and enthusiastic team of researchers working towards the goals of an Australian Research Council Discovery Project. The scholarship provides a stipend of $37,000 per year plus an additional $7,500 during the course of the PhD for PhD-related expenses, with a duration of 3.5 years.
