About this opportunity

The Richard Juarez, MD Memorial Award honors the legacy of Dr. Richard Juarez, who was born in Brawley, California and was a dedicated medical student at UCLA-Drew School of Medicine. Dr. Juarez tirelessly served CMSA (now LMSA) as a Medical Student Representative and managed the organization's Supernetwork grant funding. He was known for his leadership in community outreach and Latino health issues. This award recognizes graduating medical students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to LMSA and the Latino community throughout their medical school training. Recipients must have been actively involved in LMSA during all years of medical school and have a clear vision for improving the health of Latinos and other underserved communities. The award was created by classmates and fellow CMSA members to permanently honor Dr. Juarez's memory after his tragic passing in a car accident on November 25, 1998. UCLA-Drew School of Medicine posthumously awarded him his MD degree.
