About This Opportunity

The Sir James Caird Travelling Music Scholarships are awarded to applicants who are travelling away from their home town to a place of study either in the UK or abroad. The Scholarships are generally for post graduate levels of study for those of outstanding musical ability, or for undergraduate studies abroad for those of exceptional talent. Applicants must be of Scottish nationality, either having been born in Scotland or having at least one parent or grandparent who was born in Scotland. Awards of up to £3,500 can be made, with the amount determined mainly in relation to the centre of study chosen and the nature of the work contemplated or experience to be acquired. Applications to travel abroad are favourably considered. Each scholarship is normally tenable for one year from October 1st, but may be renewed at the discretion of the Trustees for two further yearly periods, with a maximum period of three years. Scholars must furnish periodic reports on their work, and these reports are taken into account when considering renewal applications. Selected applicants must attend auditions in Glasgow or London, where they will be required to perform musical pieces contrasting in period and style, preferably from memory.
