About this opportunity
The Susan Wakil Scholarships - Undergraduate Indigenous provides substantial financial support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students pursuing nursing education at the University of Sydney. Established in 2016 through a generous donation from the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation, this scholarship aims to encourage and support Indigenous students to undertake a Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) degree at the Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery.
The scholarship provides comprehensive funding valued at up to $87,500 over six semesters, covering tuition fees with any remaining balance paid directly to the student. Recipients receive $14,500 per semester for up to six semesters, plus an additional one-off payment of $500 in the first semester. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and a personal statement, with shortlisted candidates potentially required to attend an interview.
Recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester and remain enrolled in at least 24 credit points per semester. The program also includes participation requirements such as attending annual school scholarship events, contributing to communications with the Foundation, actively participating in the Susan Wakil Scholars Academy, and meeting regularly with academic advisors to discuss progression.
This scholarship represents a significant commitment to supporting Indigenous students in nursing education, providing not only financial support but also mentorship and community engagement opportunities throughout their undergraduate studies.
