About this opportunity

The Steglick Indigenous Women's Scholarship was established in 2016 from a donation by the Steglick family to enhance the educational and health services available to Indigenous communities in remote, rural and regional areas. This scholarship provides financial support to female Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in coursework degrees in the fields of teaching, education, or health. The scholarship aims to support Indigenous women pursuing education that will enable them to give back to their communities, particularly in remote, rural, and regional areas of Australia. Preference is given to applicants from these areas and those who can demonstrate financial disadvantage. Recipients are awarded $6,000 per annum for up to one year of full-time study or the part-time equivalent. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and a personal statement demonstrating how the applicant's studies would fulfill the aims of enhancing educational and health services in Indigenous communities. The selection process is conducted by a committee that includes the Deputy Vice Chancellor - Indigenous Strategy and Services, at least one Associate Dean of Indigenous Strategy and Services, the Director of the Gadigal Centre, and a Gadigal Centre Advancement Officer, with at least half the committee being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons.
