About This Opportunity

The Twylla and Lloyd Fisher Scholarship was founded by Lloyd Edison Fisher, Jr. and his wife of 47 years, Twylla Peterson Fisher. Lloyd was a distinguished attorney who practiced law for nearly 63 years with Columbus law firms, graduating summa cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Law where he served as editor-in-chief of its law review publication. He was also a World War II veteran who served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of staff sergeant with combat duty in Europe and occupation duty in Japan. This scholarship supports students from economically distressed communities in the Columbus area who are pursuing higher education or technical training. The scholarship reflects Lloyd's own educational journey, which began with a Stadium Cooperative Scholarship at The Ohio State University, and his lifelong commitment to education and community service. Lloyd was also an active member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church and helped establish a robust pension program for retired clergy. The scholarship is open to candidates attending two- or four-year colleges or universities, career programs, or technical programs on either a full-time or part-time basis. Recipients must be residents of economically distressed communities in the Columbus area and must attend or plan to attend an educational institution in the United States.
