AAUW's American Dissertation Fellowship supports women pursuing doctoral degrees during their final year of dissertation writing. Established in 1888, this fellowship is AAUW's flagship initiative and the oldest non-institutional source of graduate funding for women in the United States. The fellowship deepens AAUW's impact by accelerating diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia. The fellowship is open to women in all fields of study, with special encouragement for those engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, or those researching gender issues. Fellows are required to devote 100% of their working time and intellectual effort to completing their dissertation during the fellowship term from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, course-required expenses like books and supplies, as well as housing, food, and other living expenses including childcare. The fellowship supports scholars who have completed all coursework, passed preliminary exams, and have an approved research proposal.

The American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowship increases the number of women in research, development, and academic leadership, and promotes gender equity in higher education by providing funding to women in academia to pursue independent research over the course of a year. The American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowship supports early-career postdoctoral scholars – within four years of receiving their Ph.D. – including both new applicants and AAUW alumnae. The fellowship is open to applicants in all fields of study, though those engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math fields, or those researching gender issues, are especially encouraged to apply. Established in 1888, AAUW American Fellowships are the oldest non-institutional source of graduate and postdoctoral funding for women in the United States. The fellowship carries a stipend of $50,000 payable to fellows only and disbursed in two equal payments at the beginning and the midpoint of the fellowship term. Fellows are required to devote 100% of their working time and intellectual effort to their research during the fellowship year. Fellowship awards may be used for research expenses and publication fees, as well as housing, food, and other living expenses including childcare. Selection is based on scholarly excellence, originality of research design, feasibility of research plans, teaching experience, and demonstrated commitment to helping women and girls through service in their communities, professions, or fields of research. Preference is given to applicants pursuing postdoctoral studies in STEM fields or researching gender issues, as well as those who have demonstrated resilience in overcoming life challenges, first-generation bachelor's degree recipients, and those from single parent households.

The purpose of this grant instrument is to support extraordinary and bold research ideas that challenge the norms and prevailing ideas within its field of research. The Lundbeck Foundation is seeking unique, high-risk ideas which have great potential to transform our understanding of an important neuroscience field if successful. The evaluation procedure is based on the idea itself, not on previous scientific merits. This call invites applicants to submit proposals with potential benefit for the advancement of neuroscience and/or prevention, diagnosis or treatment of nervous system disorders. Projects should propose ground-breaking ideas in their early phase, which hold the potential to fundamentally change a neuroscience field, offer transformative understanding of a research topic, pave the way for a new research field, or create a new method or technology. The Foundation believes that diversity strengthens science and especially encourages scientists from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in academia, including women and scientists of diverse ethnic backgrounds, to apply.

The Lundbeck Foundation Postdoc Call invites applicants from research fields with the potential to contribute to the short- or long-term advancement of neuroscience and/or therapies for nervous system disorders to submit proposals. This programme supports two types of scientists: (1) Scientists who have been in Denmark for a minimum of five years and wish to conduct research at a research institution outside Denmark between 18 and 36 months with plans to return to Denmark; and (2) Scientists moving to Denmark from abroad who wish to conduct research in a Danish research environment for the duration of the project. Postdoctoral training plays an important role in developing talent, and the Foundation considers international experience and experience from different research environments of paramount importance for establishing a solid basis for a future independent research career. The Lundbeck Foundation believes that diversity strengthens science and encourages applications from scientists from groups that have been traditionally under-represented in academia, including women and scientists of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

This scholarship was established in 1988 by Graduate Women Wellington and is offered to encourage postgraduate study by women at masters by thesis level at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington. The scholarship provides financial support to female students who are intending to enrol in a Master's degree by thesis. The selection process takes into account not only the academic merit of the applicants but also their financial needs, with regard to dependents. Three scholarships are awarded annually, each valued at $5,000 NZD, with a tenure of one year. Recipients are expected to act as ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and present their research at a Graduate Women Wellington branch meeting.

Women Involvement in Science and Engineering Research (WISER), a programme by the Indo-German Science and Technology Centre (IGSTC), aims to build scientific capacity, encourage, and promote women researchers. Applications for the WISER programme are accepted in a paired mode, meaning 2 researchers join together to form a team that each submits its own application. IGSTC is a joint initiative by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The WISER programme intends to enhance the representation and progression of women researchers in STEM, create avenues for networking and long-term research collaboration, improve existing projects by adding research components, and promote women to lead consortium based bilateral projects. This scheme is designed for women researchers holding regular/long-term research positions in academia, research institutes, or industry in India or Germany. It is open to all areas of STEM and provides a unique opportunity to be part of an ongoing research project without applying for a fresh project grant.

The Kate Edger Foundation - Dame Dorothy Winstone Doctoral Completion Award was established in 2012 and is funded by the Kate Edger Foundation. The main purpose of the Award is to assist women graduates who have completed a minimum of three years of full-time study or six years of part-time study towards a PhD or named Doctorate, to have at least four months free of employment and to remain or become a full-time student, in order to make substantial progress towards completion of a PhD or named Doctorate qualification. The Award provides up to $16,000 each to support women doctoral students to complete their doctorate. The Award is intended for students studying full-time towards a qualification; however, the Trustees recognise that health conditions or impairments can limit a person's ability to study full-time and have extended the Award in 2023 to include part-time study on a case-by-case basis. Three awards are offered three times a year.

The Kate Edger Foundation - First Year Doctoral Award was established in 2015 and is funded by the Kate Edger Foundation. The main purpose of the Award is to assist women graduates currently enrolled in their first year of full-time study at the University of Auckland towards a PhD or named Doctorate. The Award provides up to $11,000 each to support women students enrolled in the first year of a PhD or named Doctorate. Up to five awards are offered annually. The Award is intended for students studying full-time towards a qualification; however, the Trustees recognise that health conditions or impairments can limit a person's ability to study full-time and have extended the Award in 2023 to include part-time study on a case-by-case basis. The award provides assistance with study costs for one year. Applications typically open around six weeks before the closing date in April, with applications opening on 3 March 2026 and closing on 14 April 2026 for the next cycle. The Award has a tenure of one year and aims to support women in their first year of doctoral study at the University of Auckland.

The Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada (SWAAC) Graduate Student Award of Merit recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees. At least three awards, each in the amount of $4,000, are awarded annually to women graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the university or general community while maintaining exemplary academic records. The award eligibility rotates among designated regions across Canada, including Western Provinces, Quebec, Atlantic Provinces, and Ontario, with varying numbers of awards available per region. Each university in the designated region may nominate one person through the Dean of Graduate Studies.

The Mathilde Planck Contract Lectureships programme offers women the opportunity to qualify for professorship by teaching at a public Baden-Württemberg university of applied sciences, college of art or music, or at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW). The programme is designed to increase the percentage of female professors in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The contract lectureships provide remuneration according to university-internal tariffs for a maximum teaching load of 4 hours per week over 4 semesters. The state funds the lectureships while the specific higher education institution may bear travel costs. Eligible candidates must be women with particular competence in scientific or artistic work and a higher education degree. To qualify, candidates must hold a state-recognised higher education degree, demonstrate particular competence in academic or artistic work (generally through completion of a doctorate or evidenced by artistic recognition), or have at least 2 years of professional experience outside the higher education sector with a specific doctoral research project. Candidates must not have held a teaching assignment at the respective higher education institution in the last 2 semesters.

One or more awards are given to women students in a Master's or PhD program, including by special arrangement (SPARR), in either the Department of Pacific and Asian Studies or the Department of Gender Studies whose research focuses on peoples of the Asian-Pacific region. Preference is for students with demonstrated financial need. The award amount varies and is assigned based on nominations from eligible academic units. Normally, the minimum requirement for consideration is an A- average. No application is required as awards are assigned based on nominations from eligible academic units.

The annual Angela Hildyard SWAAC Recognition Awards recognize influential and emerging leaders who have continually demonstrated innovative and impactful leadership in advancing the mission of, and achieving outstanding contributions to, their institution and/or to higher education. Two awards of $1,000 each are given annually - one for an influential leader and one for an emerging leader. A donation will be made on each recipient's behalf to an institution of their choice, in the form of a contribution to an endowment or fund that supports students, or to a registered charitable organization supporting educational initiatives. The awards recognize leaders who demonstrate commitment to institutional vision, promote equity, diversity and inclusion, improve educational experiences for students, engage stakeholders, and mentor the next generation of Canadian educators. All SWAAC members in post-secondary institutions are eligible to be nominated for this recognition award.

Generation Delta Studentships build on and contribute to the OFS / Research England project Generation Delta: Building Routes into Professorship for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Women, which seeks to redress barriers to access and participation in doctoral study for racialised students generally and women of colour in particular. These fully funded studentships are open to all eligible applicants from Black and racially minoritised backgrounds in any field of study at Goldsmiths, University of London. It is anticipated that at least one award will be made to a woman of colour, which is the group most underrepresented nationally in terms of doctoral study and studentship funding. The studentships cover UK fees and may be held on a full-time or part-time basis over three years (full-time) and six years (part-time) at an equivalent rate to fully funded UKRI studentships. They provide an annual stipend at the UKRI rate (£22,780 for 2025/26) together with a small annual research training and support fund of £750 (£350 for part-time study).

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Waterloo established the Ardeth Wood Memorial Graduate Bursary to honor graduate students in Philosophy. This award is presented yearly to a graduate student in the Department of Philosophy based on merit, involvement in the graduate community, and proven financial need. Preference is given to female graduate students. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and Ontario residents who have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to beginning their post-secondary education. Students must apply to OSAP for the term in which the award is due and demonstrate financial need through their budget where current term expenses exceed current term income. Academic merit and involvement in the graduate community must be demonstrated in the personal letter portion of the application. The final selection is made by the Philosophy Department.

The Newnham College Liverpool PhD Scholarship supports a new student applying for a PhD in any subject whose home address is within 10 miles of the former Liverpool Exchange (postcode L2 2BS). The scholarship covers home fees and provides maintenance support for the duration of the doctoral program. Successful applicants will need to accept a transfer to Newnham College, which is for female students only, to take up the scholarship. The award is made on the basis of academic merit and provides 3.5 years of fixed-length funding support for full-time or part-time PhD study at the University of Cambridge.

Fellowship awards may be used for tuition, fees, course-required expenses like books and supplies, as well as housing, food, and other living expenses including childcare.

The Royal Society of Chemistry's Grants for Carers provides up to £1,200 per year to support chemists with caring responsibilities to attend chemistry-related meetings, conferences, workshops or professional development events. The grant covers additional costs incurred for paying for care that applicants usually provide while they attend these events. Caring responsibilities are wide and varied, and this program recognizes the challenge of balancing them alongside a career in chemistry. The grant is supported by the RSC's Chemists' Community Fund and was introduced following the Breaking the Barriers report, which found that 78% of chemists working in UK academia felt that managing parenting and/or caring responsibilities had an impact on women's retention and progression. While not limited to female scientists, anyone with caring responsibilities is welcome to apply. Eligible expenses include extra home help or nursing care, additional medical/respite care, travel expenses for a relative to accompany the applicant to care for dependants, and extended hours with care workers or childminders.

The Elevate program aims to address inequities in STEM through comprehensive scholarships enabling more diverse women and non-binary people to access tertiary STEM education, professional skills development and STEM leadership opportunities with industry and academia. The program is offered by the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) in consultation with the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. Up to 500 scholarships across three categories will be awarded over the life of the program. The program is open to anyone who identifies as a woman or as non-binary and plans to commence a new course at an Australian university. Scholarships are available across three categories: undergraduate studies, postgraduate research, and leadership scholarships for higher degrees to improve business acumen.

Created in 1998, the international L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program aims to improve the position of women in science by recognizing outstanding women researchers who have contributed to scientific progress, and young women scientists engaged in exemplary and promising projects. The Canadian program, launched in 2003, recognizes promising women researchers at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels. As an extension of this program, NSERC and L'Oréal Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, offer one $10,000 supplement annually to a woman involved in a promising research project in natural sciences and engineering who has been awarded a Canada Postdoctoral Research Award (CPRA) and who has demonstrated exemplary involvement in science promotion, mentorship and leadership. NSERC and L'Oréal Canada will supplement the successful candidate's CPRA by $10,000 ($5,000 from NSERC and $5,000 from L'Oréal Canada) for one year. Starting in March, the top-scoring woman candidate from each Scholarships and postdoctoral awards review committee who is awarded and accepts a CPRA will be invited via email to apply for this supplement. Applications are evaluated based on the candidate's passion for science, demonstrated promotion of science both within and outside of academia, and the impact, relevance and currentness of their activities. Priority is given to candidates who have demonstrated their willingness and aptitude for sharing their passion for science through exemplary involvement in science promotion, mentorship, and leadership during a pivotal time in their research careers.
