Funding Opportunities

SWEF Enterprise Fund

The SWEF Enterprise Fund awards grants to young people in Lancashire who need support with business costs that they would otherwise not be able to afford, and particularly those who are not in education, employment or training. This is not a loan scheme and recipients do not need to pay the grant back. The fund offers two types of grants: Start-Up Grants (up to £500) for companies in the very early stages, pre-revenue, or have just begun trading, and Business Grants (up to £2,000) for sole trades/limited companies that have been trading for less than 2.5 years and show significant dedication. As part of the programme, SWEF provides the opportunity to join a network of peers who are also in the early stage of starting their business to share ideas, experiences and learn. The grants can be used for essential equipment or materials, website building, product development, and training, but cannot be used for salaries, debt repayment, rent and utility bills, ongoing software subscriptions, or development of businesses carrying out invasive aesthetic procedures.

Mark McQueen Foundation

The Mark McQueen Foundation has been set up by the McQueen family from Liverpool in loving memory of their son Mark. The fund prioritizes mental health projects working with young men, particularly those providing rapid, immediate, and early responses and intervention for men presenting with suicidal ideation. The foundation supports a range of activities including support groups and helplines for young men with mental health issues, support for families who have lost someone to suicide, campaigns for positive mindset change around mental health, research projects, and initiatives using music to work with young men. The fund also supports projects tackling bullying and helping unemployed young men into training and employment. Three levels of funding are available: grants up to £3,000 for full project costs, match funding up to 50% of total project costs, and underwriting of community or charity events to cover any shortfall in funds.

RWE Hameldon Hill Wind Farm Community Fund

Following the extension of the Innogy Renewables UK Wind Farm on Hameldon Hill, a community investment fund has been set up to benefit local communities throughout the lifetime of the wind farm (up to 25 years). The fund wants to encourage local people to take pride in their local area and create a sense of community spirit. The fund supports voluntary and community groups working in the Hapton with Park Ward and the Gawthorpe Ward for projects focused on children, young people and families, environment, and education and learning. Priority is given to projects addressing social priorities identified in the Lancashire Vital Signs report as being the issues of most concern to local residents. The panel will also consider projects that are addressing the impact of the COVID pandemic, provided they meet the broad focus of the fund. Priority will be given to groups from the Hapton with Park ward in the event of over subscription.

Christal Foundation

The Christal Foundation aims to support community groups and charities that work to improve the lives of people in Burnley, Lancashire. The fund provides grants of up to £3,000 for community projects that may struggle to secure funding elsewhere. The foundation prioritizes seed funding and test-and-learn opportunities for smaller grassroots organisations, allowing them to develop new projects with freedom and flexibility. Priority areas include provision of seed funding for new project development, projects facing funding challenges, addressing gaps in current provision, and feasibility studies. The donor prefers to be the principal funder rather than providing match funding. All funded activity must benefit Burnley residents of any age group, with priority given to smaller grassroots organizations that find this type of funding difficult to secure.
