About this opportunity
The Alf Waugh Indigenous Scholarship provides financial support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at the University of Sydney. Established in 2015 from a donation from Ellen Waugh, this scholarship is valued at $8,500 per annum and is tenable for the published full-time duration of the recipient's degree (single or combined) up to a maximum total duration of 5 years full-time study or part-time equivalent.
The scholarship is available to students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degrees who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons. Recipients must not have previously completed the requirements for the relevant degree level that they are currently enrolled in. The scholarship payment is distributed in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.
Preference is given to students enrolled within the Faculty of Engineering, students from the Northern Territory, and/or students from rural and remote areas of Australia as defined by the Australian Government. The scholarship is awarded based on a personal statement detailing how the scholarship will support the applicant to undertake their degree and details of financial hardship if applicable.
Recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester to continue receiving the scholarship. The scholarship is transferable to another coursework degree at the University of Sydney and may be deferred or suspended for up to two semesters with approval.
